Lucille Ball
A comedian arrives with an unmatched sense of humor a few times in history. In the ’50s, that person was Lucille Ball. For years, she delighted millions with her sitcom ‘I Love Lucy.’ The show’s popularity encouraged other self-produced shows similar to it. Sitcoms such as ‘The Lucy Show’ and ‘Here’s Lucy’ turned Ball from being a casual comedian into one of television’s main stars – and her success continued until the end.
Lucille died in 1989 after a ruptured aorta. This photo was taken one month earlier at the Academy Awards.
