Don’t Pay Attention to Unsolicited Advice

Having a newborn, even if it’s your second or third child, will open the door to the family wanting to give you advice. This is completely natural for the family to do when there’s a new baby. Try to not pay attention to unsolicited advice, or at least nod and say that you appreciate the advice and will think about it, so as to not cause a dramatic event at family dinner on Thanksgiving.

Pack Everything Necessary

Be sure to start packing your baby’s diaper bag long before Thanksgiving Day arrives. This will ensure you don’t forget anything, especially if you’re traveling far to a family member’s home. Even if you’re not traveling far, or you’re staying home, it’s nice to have everything that your baby needs within an arms reach to ensure your little one has a fabulous first thanksgiving day with your family.

Don’t Toss Baby Around

You know your newborn best if they aren’t comfortable being held too much or it’s their nap time, feel free to say no. This is your new baby and you’ll know when he or she is overstimulated and needs a little Mommy or Daddy time. Be sure that baby always feels comfortable around your family before tossing him or her around too much, as this can cause your baby stress out.

Do Not SKip Nap Time

It doesn’t matter where you are, be sure you packed something for baby to nap in or on during their regular nap time. If you try to skip your baby’s nap time, you’ll quickly regret that and have to exit the family Thanksgiving day sooner than expected. Be sure to find a place suitable for your baby to nap while visiting family on this holiday. The family will surely allow a room to be designated for your baby’s nap time.

Bring Hand Sanitizer

As it is cold and flu season and your newborn baby may be more susceptible to cold and flu germs, be sure to bring your own hand sanitizer. Have anyone that holds your baby use it before and after holding your baby. This will keep germs down and ensure you don’t go home with cold and flu sickies that family members may be carrying without realizing.

There you have it, 5 tips for baby’s first Thanksgiving. Following these 5 simple tips will ensure that you and your entire family enjoy your little one’s first Thanksgiving together.
