Arts and Crafts Ideas for Kids of All Ages

September 28, 2021 by Adriana Matthews

Kids are creative, no matter what their age. Some kids are so creative it may seem they were born that way. Other times, creativity is nurtured in a child by the environment she lives in or things her parents do to promote creativity within the family. Children all over the world show incredible talent when working with art and craft projects.

Here are some ideas for you to try with your kids. There are so many wonderful themes to work on with children. You can find just about any theme out there that interests you, do research on it, and then attempt to create art or crafts based on that theme.

Here are a few examples:

Editorial content

Disney Theme

If your child loves Disney, be sure to check out the hot trend of decoupage. Decoupage is the art of gluing objects onto other objects to create an interesting effect. This can include paper mache, which you would learn how to make by searching online for a tutorial on paper mache. Then, you can cut out Disney characters and glue them onto your child’s paper mache project to create an amazing final product!

Your Kids’ Favorite Characters

If your child loves Spiderman, search online for tutorials on how to make a Spiderman mask out of newspaper. Your kid will love following the steps in order to make her own mask.

If the child loves Dora the Explorer, search online for ideas on how to make a Dora dress out of used clothing. This may be difficult because you have to know your child’s size so that it fits correctly, but if you use old clothing around the house or purchase clothes from thrift stores, you can create a very cute Dora outfit for your child to play dress-up with.

Cars, Trucks and Things that Go

If your son loves construction vehicles or cars or trucks of any kind, he most likely would love it if you made him an obstacle course out of cardboard boxes so he can jump around like the characters in the movie Cars. Kids love following this theme in particular because it’s all about movement and speed, two things they are most familiar with in their playtime activities.

You can also make a car out of old cereal boxes by cutting the bottoms off up to the top section of each box flap. Glue the boxes together so you have a car shape, and be sure to staple the sides of each flap together along the middle. This will make a great toy for your child.

Other Fun Arts and Crafts Ideas

Some other ideas include making sun catchers out of coffee filters and watercolors, baking cups out of clay that kids can paint on, creating a bird feeder out of pine cones, or making a wheeled toy out of old furniture that can be pulled around the house like a wagon. For older kids, you could even try something like professional makeup kits to create an evening look for them to play dress-up with friends.

Whatever theme your child loves, be creative and have fun!
