There’s no denying that the world was once a much simpler place. We always hear stories from our parents and grandparents about life in the 40s, 60s, and even 80s, but it always helps to see a visual representation of those days. Looking at photographs enables you to imagine what music was playing in the background, the weather outside, and how people felt. And while we wish we could have been there, experiencing life way back when firsthand, the creators of the Vintage Weird Facebook group have that part covered. So, sit back and relax and pretend it’s 1954 and you’re sipping on a milkshake with your friends at your local diner…
#1: The World’s Largest Automobile, 1934
Considering that the world has advanced so intensely since the new millennium, it is hard to imagine how certain things ever got done beforehand. It is mind-boggling to think about how buildings were built and how cars were manufactured without the incredibly efficient technology we have today. However, many people argue that things were built in an objectively sturdier manner.
While impressive, this giant Studebaker was not a real car but a prototype to be displayed at the Travel and Transport Building of the Chicago International Exposition of 1934. This model was a sight to see at 80 feet long and 28 feet wide. The sheer size of people against this huge art piece confuses the senses.
