Have you seen the popular fidget toys such as spinners or cubes and wondered how they could actually have a purpose? You’re most likely not alone.
Many people see fidget cubes and related items as toys or distractions. However, there are actually benefits to using these and they can help a variety of people in different situations. Today I’m sharing some of the benefits of fidget cubes with you.
Benefits of Fidget Cubes
Calms Anxiety
Many people with anxiety feel a need or urge to fidget when they’re feeling anxious, and fidget toys can give a great outlet for that. Anxiety can sometimes be calmed with fidgeting or by grounding yourself holding onto something solid, and fidget toys can work as both a form of movement for nerves and a grounding object.
Increases Stimulation
For those that need heightened stimulation in their daily lives, fidget cubes and other items are a great way to get that. This is common in those with ADHD, some forms of autism, struggling with emotion regulation, and more. It allows an inexpensive and small way to increase stimulation to make functioning easier.
Less Distracting
If you’re someone that needs to move around or play with something such as someone with anxiety, ADHD, or children; you may often be distracting to others or yourself in fulfilling that need. A fidget item can give an outlet for movement without being as distracting as leg bouncing, tapping pencils or pens, or other common movements.
Improves Focus
Focus is particularly difficult to get right for almost anyone, because everyone needs their own balance of background noise or surrounding activities to focus properly. However, some evidence has shown fidgeting, even on a small scale, can improve your focus on a task. This has been shown in both adults and children.
Helps Kids
The aspect of fidgeting in children is pretty sporadic in research. But, there are sufficient findings that children can function better in aspects like paying attention, memory, and more while being able to play with something or move around. Since moving around isn’t often an option during class, fidgets can take its place.
Personalized
Fidget cubes and other items are incredibly personal to each user. Some require very little focus on the actual action and others require a decent amount of attention. There are ones that are completely quiet, and others that make small noises. And there are all different colors and types of fidget.
Adjustable Stimulation
We all need a different level of stimulation to be able to function best, depending on our mood, mental health, and the time of day. Fidget cubes can add stimulation in any increment a user wants. Essentially, you can use these to make your environment and mind more or less busy to suit you.
Of course, there are probably plenty of other positives that could make the list; but hopefully this gives you a better understanding on the uses of fidget cubes and similar items. Maybe you or a loved one could put a fidget item to use!
They’re a great thing to consider, especially when fidget cubes are incredibly inexpensive in most places.
