#25: The Mandela Effect
The Mandela effect is a weird phenomenon where a large group of people believe that an event happened, only to find out it did not. The name was coined in 2009 when people found out that Nelson Mandela was alive and well. A large group of people swore on their life that Mandela had died in the 1980s. There are plenty of other weird coincidences that fall under the Mandela effect.
One of the most famous examples among millennials is the spelling of “Berenstain” in the “Berenstain Bears” book series. Tons of people swear that it used to be spelled “Berenstein.” Weird. There are so many of these weird coincidences that some people think there’s more to it. What if these events really did happen and we’re being gaslit into thinking they didn’t? That would certainly be mind-blowing.
