Most parents will agree that kids need to have chores. These chores will adjust based on age and maturity level, but regardless, all kids need to have some sort of chore list. This list of chores helps teach your kids responsibility and how to be held accountable for their portion of the team family!
Today we’re featuring some tips that will help you motivate your kids to do chores. This will reduce tension, threats, and tantrums so that your house can be cleaner and your family more united.
Make a List
The first step towards motivating your kids to do chores is to make a list. Each kid should have a list of what chores you expect them to do. This list can be done daily or weekly, but we advise weekly to limit the time involved with list-making.
Alternative Chores
With each week’s chore list, alternative which kid will be doing each chore. Switching things up will keep the kids motivated as they won’t grow tired of doing the same chores week in and week out. Consider teaming up younger kids with older kids to help them learn the ropes, too!
Create a Reward System
You can create a reward system based on money or extra privileges. Your kids will be motivated to compete with each other to see who gets all their chores done for the biggest reward. Creating competition among siblings is a sure-fire way to motivate them to complete chores regularly.
Make Chores Fun
Allow your kids to laugh, dance, and play around as they get each chore completed. There isn’t a rule that says chores must be done straight-faced. Create a fun chore’s music playlist so the kids can act silly while getting their daily chores completed.
Encourage Cleanup
Encourage your kids to clean up after themselves whenever they’re done with an activity. Explain to them how this will limit the number of hours they have to spend doing their chores. Teaching kids to clean up after their done with a game or toy is a fabulous life skill to be mindful of the household’s cleanliness.
Chores First
Enforce a chores first rule where the kids must get their chores done before they can play a video game or have access to the Wi-Fi. This is a fabulous way to motivate your kids to get the chores done in record time. Just make sure to spot-check so they’re not doing a partial cleanup job just to get on their games.
These are just a few of the best ways to motivate your kids to do chores. When you opt to make sure kids have chores and get them done, you’re setting them up for a lifetime of success in other areas of life.
