A Challenging Demand
In the joyous and jovial season of Christmas, most people pen down whimsical and playful wishes. However, not all Christmas wishes mirror this cheery spirit; some are profoundly poignant and heartbreaking. One raconteur shared her experience of playing the role of a Snow Maiden during her residency in Russia. Though not exactly akin to Santa Claus, the Snow Maiden, considered Santa’s granddaughter in Russian folklore, is believed to wield an equivalent power and magic.

In her role as the Snow Maiden, she was approached by a young child, confined to a wheelchair, who asked if he could regain his ability to walk for Christmas. This was a profoundly emotional and difficult request. The woman, caught in her character, was at a loss for words. While she lacked the medical expertise or miracle-working abilities to make the child walk again, she was left with the challenge of maintaining her character’s magic without fostering false hope – a delicate balance to strike.
