#33: An Orange Surplus
No matter where you go in the United States, you will see giant orange barrels sitting along the side of the highway. It might not be scenic, but it’s consistent. Have you ever wondered what in the world those orange barrels are for? Well, you’re not alone. Their constant presence has led people to speculate about their purpose.
Perhaps the Department of Transportation bought way too many orange barrels one year. They can’t get rid of them, so they store them on the side of the highway throughout the country. In reality, these bright barrels act as dividers to prevent drivers from going into construction zones. Orange barrels as a safety measure is way more boring. We like the surplus theory.
