How to Get Baby to Sleep Through Night

November 29, 2018 by MamaBee

Sometimes it’s a struggle to get your baby to sleep through the night. Being a parent to a newborn brings about a new set of concerns, issues, and struggles that many new parents aren’t prepared for. Getting a baby to sleep through the night is probably one of the most challenging parts of parenting a newborn. While this is a struggle, it doesn’t have to be. Today I’m featuring a few ways you can get your baby to sleep through the night so that you and your baby can get a little more rest in overnight.

Start with a Bath

A warm, relaxing lavender bath will help soothe your newborn. A bath using a bedtime bath soap will surely help your baby feel more relaxed so that when you lay them down to bed they won’t be as anxious or wide awake.

Make Feeding Calm

The last feeding before bedtime for your baby shouldn’t be full of socializing. Use this bedtime feeding as a moment for calm, relaxing lullabies versus conversations and laughter so that your baby learns to recognize the cue for bedtime.

Use Pajamas

Be sure that your baby is dressed in a specific pair of pajamas for bedtime. While a newborn may not notice this change, as your baby gets to be three months or older, they’ll learn that their bedtime pajamas are for sleepy time.

Have Other Parent Help

You can take shifts as a parent so that one night one parent is doing bedtime duties while the other parent gets to bed earlier. The next night switch it up so that every other night at least one parent is getting some good sleep time in.

These are just a few ways you can work towards getting your baby to sleep through the night. Many parents frown upon the cry it out method, so if you’re not going to use that method, then try to stay near baby to soothe them without picking them up. You can do this while singing lullabies or having a rocker next to their bed so you can place your hand on their chest to calm them back to sleep.
