#40: The Biggest Lie of Adulthood
This is a highly studied phenomenon. Over 41% of Americans set New Year’s resolutions each and every year, and only 9% of those stick with them. Of course, this is all self-reported, so let’s knock that number down to 5% since there are bound to be people who can’t help making themselves look good on paper.
The key to keeping your resolutions is time and motivation. If you start or quit the habit on day one and stick with it for a month, you’re much more likely to make it through the end of the year. It’s the people who make the resolution and give up within a week that will never succeed. I say we create a new resolution holiday in the summertime. I feel like people are more likely to make changes in the warmer months than when it’s freezing outside.
