46th Place – Alabama
Well, it seems the Heart of Dixie is singing the blues when it comes to education. A recent WalletHub report placed Alabama in the back of the class, ranking it 46th overall in education. The state also scored a disappointing 46th in school safety, 43rd in reading scores, and 42nd in both student-teacher ratios and quality of education. It’s clear the state has some homework to do to improve these grades!
Alabama’s educational rankings have certainly thrown a wrench into its national reputation. In 2019, US News and World Report rolled out the red carpet for their annual state rankings, and alas, Alabama was left in the dust at 49th place. Despite its rich tapestry of history, it seems the next state on the list is stealing the spotlight with its commendable strides in equality.
