Fasten Your Seat Belts
To be honest, I’ve always wondered why the first episode of a new TV show is called a “pilot.” When we were young, most of us probably thought “Pilot” was the name of the first episode. Truth is, there’s plenty of history behind the word pilot, and it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with planes.
While the word pilot was used back in the 1920s to describe a prototype or a test variable, Delilah has found another explanation: it’s called a pilot, since it marks the first time a show is on the air. How clever is that? Honestly, we’d never come up with this creative explanation if it wasn’t for Twitter.
