52. Dolly Parton
In the world of country music, Dolly Parton is perhaps best known for her amusement park, but she was also a trailblazer for women in the industry. During the 1960s and 1970s, American culture expected women to stay at home and raise their children rather than pursuing a fulfilling job.
If women were to achieve success in the music industry, record labels and the general public expected the ladies to conform to a certain cultural mould.
Parton was born into a family of twelve children in Appalachia, and she rose to prominence as a symbol of achievement for the impoverished region that is now known as the Rust Belt.
