35. Everyone do the Polka
During the Winter War of 1939-1940, the Finnish army employed an ingenious tactic to counter the Soviet Union’s use of radio-controlled mines. Understanding the threat posed by these mines, which could be detonated remotely via radio signals, the Finns devised a simple yet effective countermeasure.
By broadcasting a traditional polka tune continuously over the radio waves, they effectively jammed the frequencies used by the Soviets to control their mines. This constant stream of lively music rendered the Soviet mines useless, as the interference prevented the reception of detonation commands.
