It’s December! You know what that means, don’t you? It means we get to ignore family and friends and binge-watch our favorite Christmas-themed movies from yesteryear and beyond. Join us as we go through a list of Christmas classics that include quirky romantic comedies, animated specials, and five-star films that just so happen to maybe take place during the holiday season.
Elf (2013)
Will Ferrell’s overgrown-child persona works well with this comedy about a naive giant elf looking for his dad in New York City, but the film isn’t just meant to be funny. In a genre that has become generically saccharine, this is one contemporary Christmas film that retains its genuine sweetness thanks to the abundance of heart and soul in its celebration of the holiday spirit.
Favorite Quote: “First, we’ll make snow angels for two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse cookie-dough as fast as we can, and then we’ll snuggle.” What better way is there to get into the holiday spirit?
