A Tenant is Not an Employee
We highly suggest that Matt moves out before his landlord, Alex requests any more demands from him. Matt asked Alex if he could shovel the snow on the stairs, without saying please. Alex offered to go above and beyond and salt the stairs too. Matt is Alex’s tenant and not his employee. This was a favor, not a requirement.
The fact that Alex sent his cousin to the building to ensure Matt fulfilled his request means he is being treated like an employee, not a tenant. You are required to live by the landlord’s rules and respect them. In return, they are supposed to respect you, and treating a tenant like an employee is highly disrespectful.
