Ah, to grow up and realize that Ariel is just like us and simply ended up overcomplicating her life instead of keeping it simple. She was obviously literate if she could read and sign Ursula’s contract. So when she’s mute in the human world, why didn’t she just write a note to Prince Eric to tell him what was really going on?

Surely, she could have pantomimed to get some pen and paper?  Even a simple “Kiss me in three days or things are about to get real” Post-it note would have sufficed but no, she just had to put everyone including herself through all that confusion and heartbreak. Oh well…
