What Goes on Behind The Castle Doors; Secrets of the Happiest Place on Earth

Double Counting the Stars and Stripes

Did you know a federal law in the United States governs how the American flag should be displayed and cared for? The law is not enforceable, so there are no real penalties for violating the flag code. Still, people generally try to adhere to the guidelines out of respect, including the Disney parks.

Main Street U.S.A is adorned with many American flags, but if you take the time to count the stars and stripes, you may notice that the numbers are a little off. Disney almost exclusively uses skewed representations of the flag to avoid having to adhere to the flag codes, which lessens the workload on cast members who would otherwise have to raise and lower flags at special times.
