What Goes on Behind The Castle Doors; Secrets of the Happiest Place on Earth

November 7, 2011 by Naomi Kobayashi

Go Away Green

Although Walt Disney created parks that are bursting at the seams with magic, the truth is, it takes a lot more than a wave of a wand or a wish granted from Genie to make it all happen, and not all of it is pretty. A lot of Imagineering goes into making the magic while keeping park guests away from the backstage areas and camouflaging the uglier bits.

One of Disney’s secret weapons is a shade of paint called Go Away Green. The specialized color is uninteresting to our eyes, keeping guests focused on attractions and other brightly painted places they are encouraged to explore. It is usually used on employee-only areas, construction sites, and other items that need blending into the background.
