38th Place – Arizona
One of Arizona’s distinguishing characteristics is its exceptionally diverse population. However, this diversity creates a unique challenge in the state’s educational system – fewer than 80% of children are raised in households where English is the primary language.
Educators assert that this is a contributing factor to why Arizona has one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation. Consequently, there is an increased emphasis on developing initiatives that will assist pupils who are non-native English speakers.
