2nd Place – Maryland
Maryland placed highly in the annual rankings for the most educated states in the US, taking out silver. Additionally, the state had a strong showing in higher education, coming in second for the proportion of people with advanced degrees and third for the number of bachelor’s degrees.
Experts attribute this mainly to the highest average income of Maryland’s inhabitants. This higher income generally results in more tax revenue for the state, which Maryland has allocated to its educational system. While other states typically spend around 3.3% on education, Maryland’s expenditure rate is slightly higher at 3.7%.
