Taxi windows
Around 2012, many photographs began to emerge all over the internet showing taxi cabs in China that did not have any window handles. It was a bit odd at first to many people who saw the pictures, thinking that maybe new window technology had arrived in China. But it was actually a forced removal of window handles by the government.
They had decided that window handles should be taken off tax cabs because they were organizing the 18th National Congress in Beijing at that time. They did not want people rolling down windows and shouting inappropriate or anti-government things at officials or at crowds gathered around the event. So as long as the windows were down, no one could hear them.
