The Regency Era
While some may mistake Bridgerton to be set in the Victorian era, the truth is that it is set in the Regency era. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, the Regency era actually preceded the Victorian period and was called so because England was under the rule of Prince Regent back then between 1811 and 1820.
This happened at the tail end of the reign of King George III when he fell ill and was subsequently deemed unfit to rule. This era was followed by the Victorian era when Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837 and continued until 1901.
