Inclusive Casting
The one thing that we love about Bridgerton is its inclusive casting with plenty of hard-hitting lead black characters. While most period dramas are predictable when it comes to their cast members, Bridgerton reimagines a world with Black royalty and aristocrats and we are here for it.
While many people have praised the creators for the show’s “colorblind casting,” Chris Van Dusen disagrees with the term. According to him, this implies that they never considered color and race, when in fact he was very intrigued by the possibility of Queen Charlotte being mixed race. Apparently, this led him to wonder how society looked at the time and how the queen would have used her power to elevate other people of color in society.
