Family-Grams
While sailors on American submarines communicate with their families once a week, those in the British submarine fleet have it even better–they get to talk to their loved ones weekly! And by “talk,” we mean exchange one message of 60 characters or fewer.
To save time, both shipowners and sailors would use fewer words in their messages and omit punctuation. This way of communicating would be sure to keep the sailors going when they have to spend up to 150 days at sea.
