How Do You Even Drive This Thing?
Have you ever questioned how people pilot submarines? If so, you’re not alone. Every submarine has an area called the “conn.” It’s a raised platform located in the control center of the submarine. The officer of the watch typically sits on this platform and maintains the watch. This is also where the submarine’s periscopes are located.
The officer has two responsibilities while on watch: the “deck” and the “conn.” The first one, supervision, control, and responsibility for all aspects of the submarine falls under deck duty. Additionally, conn responsibility is piloting the vessel.
