The Unexpected and Controversial Rise of MrBeast to YouTube Superstardom

Nobody can remake Squid Games without getting some flak. There was a lot of backlash from viewers and media outlets when they found out MrBeast had tried to make money off of a show that was ostensibly critical of capitalism. Many have noted that he appears to have spent millions on the show without giving much thought to its intended purpose.

The show’s original message, which criticized classism in South Korea, was lost in comments that accused MrBeast of “flaunting his wealth” to attract viewers. After all, how can you fight against classism when you’re a part of the 1%?
