Will We Ditch The Labels?
Humans naturally label things and pack them into neat little mental boxes that are carefully categorized. Labels give us a way to communicate specific details about ourselves with others who might identify with us, and they help tell us what to expect and how to prepare. As useful as they are, some people are tired of the endless descriptors and want us all to be one.
Label avoiders often see them as a problematic source of pride that seeks special treatment, but pro-label people say ignoring them invalidates and erases their experiences. We are all humans (unless you’re an alien in a skin suit sent to Earth to spy on how silly we are), but our lives are unique and need language to describe them. Is there a way to do it without the labels?
