Canned food
Cockroaches and tinned peaches: that’s all that will survive the apocalypse. Or so the general assumption goes. We think that canned food lasts forever, stocking our pantry shelves with it in case of emergency. But, although canning does extend the shelf life of food considerably, it doesn’t actually make it last forever.
In a dark, cool place, canned food can last anything from 1 to 4 years, depending on what’s inside. We should still stick to the expiration dates if we don’t want to end up feeling really ill. And during a zombie apocalypse, consider using expired cans of food as weapons, not sustenance.
