The farmer, the only one to survive, heard a rumbling sound coming from inside his wooden house. The term odyssey is derived from the name of Homer’s epics. If you haven’t read any of the works attributed to Homer before, I highly suggest going to your local library and doing so. They’re amazing stories that are well-known throughout the world. In the 8th century BC, Homer composed two epic poems: the Iliad and Odyssey.

The Iliad and Odyssey are two ancient Greek epic poems, both considered the beginning of Greek literature. There is some debate as to whether or not Homer composed these works. Little is known about him other than the fact that he was blind. It’s possible that he wrote the Iliad down but didn’t originate the tale and that he may have been the source for the Odyssey; however, not its author!
