#14: Overworked, Underpaid
New York is one of the toughest cities to live in. Frank Sinatra famously croons, “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere,” and he wasn’t lying. Living expenses are insanely high, and there are a ton of jobs that just don’t pay enough to cover the bills. This poor intern realized just how tough they had it when they decided to analyze how much they made in a month.
After breaking it down, it turns out they make a measly $2.50 an hour. That’s nowhere close to minimum wage! The reason for their depressing salary is probably the fact that they are working as an intern, which is a famously underpaid job no matter what industry you’re working in. The driver they were talking to made the even more depressing point that a New York parking meter makes more money per hour than this poor intern. We vote that they quit.
