Captain Hook – Hans Conried
Disney’s Peter Pan movie gives us another great example of a character’s animation being based on the actor who voiced them. The villain in Peter Pan was a pirate named Captain Hook. Hook was voiced by the actor/comedian Hans Conried, and his likeness is what we now associate with Disney’s most famous pirate.
The animators worked very diligently when it came to drawing Captain Hook. Conried would show up and do live-action modeling for this project for two years. Often times they would have him wear the full Captain Hook costume because they wanted to see how the clothes would look as he moved.
