Green Good, Red Bad
Symbols are an inescapable part of daily life. From a young age, we are taught that certain shapes and colors are associated with specific meanings, and we will encounter them so often that we won’t even think twice when we see them. Culture can play a prominent role in the meanings assigned to symbols, but most basic symbols are pretty universal.
Take, for instance, circles and x’s. Circles usually denote confirmation or a positive outcome, while x’s are reserved for the opposite. This ATM not only mixed up the X and circle, but its enter button is red, which is usually the color for canceling or clearing, while the cancel button is an accepting green color.
