The Dunning-Kruger effect explains why dumb people think they’re smart
The Dunning-Kruger effect affirms that some individuals who don’t have knowledge about certain things still behave as though they do. These types of people might claim to overestimate their understanding of a particular topic or individual.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is the phenomenon whereby people with the least knowledge in a field always give inflated assessments of their expertise. A 1999 study carried out by Dunning and Kruger (the professors that coined the term) showed that this is indeed the case. This lack of self-awareness can be both interesting and frustrating.
