The discovery of the world’s oldest water
Abundant water is one of Earth’s many resources, with some bodies of water remaining from millions of years ago while others are only now being discovered. Recently, a team of Canadian researchers found a new pool of water in Canada.
At a depth of approximately 1.8 miles, this pool is said to be around 2 billion years old. Compared to the previously oldest water source- considered 1.5 billion years old- this discovery is groundbreaking. Additionally, researchers found evidence of microorganisms living in the water several years prior. This supports theories that bacteria could have potentially existed before multicellular organisms did.
