Personal Space
South Koreans are not very affectionate people. We discussed earlier that hugs are only appropriate to use with very close friends and family. Significant others can hold hands, but kissing in public is off-limits. However, there are some forms of physical contact that are normal in South Korea that are more foreign to us.
Usually, in the West, small children will hold hands but in South Korea, female friends tend to walk hand-in-hand. In America, we don’t usually hold our friends’ hands past a certain age. Additionally, in South Korea, male friends are more physically affectionate towards one another than male friends in the West would be.
