The Spelling Supervisor
Reddit was founded in the mid-2000s as a website for users to share links and discuss topics. It grew in popularity and now has millions of users and many communities sharing everything from embarrassing videos to relationship advice and funny cat photos. Although it was created on American soil (or cyberspace), its user base transcends borders.
The world accepts that Americans are the odd one out by omitting the “u” in several English words, but the acceptance doesn’t always go both ways. It turns out we dropped the “u” because as American English evolved, people thought it wasn’t necessary to include it to produce the same sound. If you ask me, it kind of lends to the “lazy” stereotype.
