Basic Instinct 2 – $32 million
Speaks of there being a sequel to 1992’s Basic Instinct was heavily speculated for over a decade since the original had done so well. But as you already know, sequels very rarely do as well as the originals, and Basic Instinct 2 is no exception.
Basic Instinct 2 bombed in theaters, making just $38.6 million and lose $32 million altogether. The director, Michael Caton-Jones, said that making the movie was a painful experience. The bad reviews, he could live with, but knowing that he was responsible for directing a movie that was terrible from the beginning was heartbreaking. Thankfully, plans for Basic Instinct 3 were tossed in the trash following this film’s terrible ratings.
