Raquel Welch then
During her time in college, Raquel Tejada married her college sweetheart, James Welch. She was an aspiring actress, and in the early sixties she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She knew she wanted to perform from a young age. Welch didn’t find immediate success, though, but it took a couple of years before her career finally took off.
She was initially cast in small roles in television and film, until her breakthrough role came in 1966 with the blockbuster science-fiction Fantastic Voyage. Later that year, she appeared in One Million Years B.C. – while she didn’t have many lines in the film, her captivating look was enough to catch the public’s attention, and Welch turned into the pin-up girl of the sixties and seventies.
