Fruits of Opal
Starburst started its humble beginnings as a product of The Wrigley Company. However, it was originally known as Opal Fruits, but its name was subsequently changed in the 1960s. For several decades, Wrigley would slowly phase out the name Opal Fruits while replacing it with the more globalized Starburst.
When Mars acquired Wrigley, they decided to run a 12-week campaign, reintroducing Opal Fruits and its four original flavors in the UK before, once again, selling Starburst exclusively. Then, in 2020, Mars decided that Opal Fruits would make a comeback. It’s a pretty messy story that involves a ton of details that nobody really cares about. We just want our original colors back!
