This landlord was paying an awful lot of attention to this renter’s balcony. So, jumping to probably the worst conclusion he could, he assumed it was an illicit grill. Fortunately, it turned out he was wrong; it was only a turned-over planter. Still, he wasn’t satisfied with leaving the renter alone.

It’s rational to have a rule about a neat and tidy balcony; after all, other people have to look at it. Nobody would care to see trash sitting out in somebody’s outdoor area. However, this balcony hardly seems messy to us. The fact that a planter is upside down doesn’t qualify as a mess in our book.
