#21: Experiment and combine!
This Reddit user is correct. After a few years of cooking, you’ll rarely use exact measurements. This means that when people share their recipes, the measures they’re quoting are often a ballpark. Many people learn to cook from their families, and granny’s best apple pie took years of practice to get it just right. It’s not written down; it’s just “how she makes it.”
Recently, I was trying to emulate a she-crab soup I had in Savannah, Georgia. I tried a few different recipes, and none of them quite hit the mark. That’s when I realized that I was going about it all wrong. By combining different parts of each recipe, I finally created the perfect soup, and it tasted exactly how I hoped it would!
