#5: Spoiler Alert
Spoiler alert: he was the only survivor. The word odyssey did come from the title of Homer’s epics, though. If you haven’t yet read any of the works attributed to Homer, I highly recommend picking them up at the local library. They’re fantastic tales and very well known. Homer wrote two epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey, in the 8th century BC.
Those works are considered the foundation of Greek literature. Strangely enough, there is some debate about whether or not Homer wrote the works. Not much is known about him, other than that he was blind. Historians think he wrote the Iliad down but didn’t invent the story and that he may have been the inspiration for the Odyssey, but not the author!
